India has become the biggest market for WhatsApp with over 400 million users using the platform for instant communication. While it is aiding efficient and effective digital communication, it has also given rise to fakenews and misinformation, which has become a major social issue in the last one year.

In light of the increasing spread of fakenews, misinformation and disinformation, Digital Empowerment Foundation, which is a non-government organisation working in the space of digital enablement of grassroots communities, with the support from WhatsApp, has undertaken the task of organising and supervising a series of workshops over the next one year across India to build the capacity of NGOs, SHGs, MSME and community in identifying and fighting fakenews and misinformation.

Lack of awareness and understanding towards using technology amongst a large section of the population is one of the prime reasons for the spread of fakenews and misinformation. Besides, fake news is also being used as a weapon and tool to spread hatred by people with sinister agendas. We have already reached out to more than 35000 people in various states of India, across diverse focus groups, and looking to reach out to 50000 more by the year-end. In this regard, we are looking at forming partnerships with NGOs who would assist us in achieving the target.

Our aim is to reach out to NGOs, Self-help groups and MSMEs with workshops that combine ‘Fighting Fakenews’. The module for the workshop will be shared with the partner NGOs, including other research methodologies. The length of each workshop is 3 hours.

REMUNERATION WILL BE BASED ON NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS ACHIEVED.

KINDLY WRITE BACK WITH YOUR NETWORK BASE AND POTENTIAL TO REACH OUT TO RELEVANT PARTICIPANTS.
